Literacy Impacts Us All

When adults learn to read, write, or do basic math, their transformations are nothing short of remarkable. They can find and keep jobs, enjoy better health and educate their children. Their new skills enable them to dream big, do more and move forward. And that means society can move forward, too.

We Need Your Help

Our programs depend on volunteers and donations to allow us to touch the lives of countless neighbors across Beaufort County. Your gifts — of time, money and advocacy —  help us deliver the critical programs that empower adults and enrich our community.

Our Events

On May 5, we’re joining together with the Coastal Community Foundation (CCF) of South Carolina for Lowcountry Giving Day — an extraordinary day of giving back. It’s a chance – in a small period of time – for our students, alumni, tutors, friends and neighbors to build a brighter future for The Literacy Center while making a dramatic difference in our community.

Thanks to a group of generous donors, any gift made on behalf of The Literacy Center on May 5 through the Lowcountry Giving Day Web site will be matched dollar for dollar up to $10,000.That means, together, we can raise $20,000 for adult literacy in one 24-hour period.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:  Mark your calendar to make a gift on Tuesday, May 5. Also, encourage family, friends and neighbors to participate by liking and sharing our Facebook posts and e-mail newsletters.

HOW IT WORKS:  Online credit or debit card donations of at least $25 must be made during the day or night of May 5 to count toward The Literacy Center’s goal of matching $10,000. To give, simply click here  and donate to The Literacy Center as directed. Donations made by check must be postmarked between Monday, April 21 and Friday, April 24 to count toward our matching goal. Checks should be made payable to CCF (with The Literacy Center noted on the Memo line) and sent directly to Coastal Community Foundation, 635 Rutledge Ave, Ste. 201, Charleston, SC 29403.

QUESTIONS?:  Contact Wendy Jones at 843.815.6616 for more information or to learn how you may make a gift using donor-advised funds or stock.
