Help Us Celebrate Our Students!

Join us as we celebrate the successes of our students who have become U.S. Citizens recently and those who have obtained their GEDs.
We are so very proud of them!

The Literacy Center’s American Dream Celebration will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 6-9 PM at Indigo Hall at The Club at Indigo Run. The event will include an exciting silent auction, heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine & beer, music and dancing. We will be sharing information about the citizenship and pre-GED programs being offered at TLC,
all taught by our volunteer tutors.
And you will get to meet our students!

We have seen more and more students excited about becoming U.S. Citizens over the past months with three students passing the exams and three others preparing to take the exams this spring. This event is to celebrate their ambition and hard work to become productive members of our community. Four students recently obtained their GEDs,
the high school equivalency certificate.

The funds raised at the American Dream Celebration event
will support these programs,
including free citizenship classes.

DID YOU KNOW?
The Literacy Center offers citizenship classes for free at Hilton Head and Bluffton. The fee to take the citizenship exams is $800 per person. The exam requires that individuals pass a written exam and an oral exam based on their application. They are allowed to take the exam twice and if they fail they are required to pay the $800 fee and start over again.

The American Dream Celebration will replace TLC’s annual fundraiser “Cooks & Books” which featured a book fair and food tastings, due to several conflicting events in Beaufort County in early March and the schedules of participating authors.
