Benches, Books & More!
Join us May 28 – June 1 at the Art Center for an exhibition of hand painted furniture by local artists themed around 10 local Lowcountry authors. This week-long joint fundraiser benefits the Art League of Hilton Head and TLC and includes book signings and a chance to bid on the furniture. On Friday evening, June 1 a party will be held at the Art Center with wine, appetizers and the final silent auction of the furniture. Tickets are $10 per person and available here.
The Literacy Center will host an event to celebrate the successes of their students who have become U.S. Citizens recently and those who have obtained their GEDs. The American Dream Celebration will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018, from 6-9 PM at Indigo Hall at The Club at Indigo Run. The event will include an exciting silent auction, heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine & beer, The John Brackett Trio as well as information about the citizenship and pre-GED programs being offered at The Literacy Center, all taught by volunteer tutors. This event replaces TLC’s annual fundraiser “Cooks & Books” which featured a book fair and food tastings, due to several conflicting events in Beaufort County in early March and the schedules of participating authors.
The Literacy Center will be the beneficiary again this November of funds raised at the Bluffton Book Festival. On Saturday, July 15th the BBF will kick off the celebration of reading and literacy with a Summer Afternoon Party for New York Times Bestselling authors Patti Callahan Henry and Mary Kay Andrews. Both authors will be personalizing their newest books, “The Bookshop at Water’s End” and “The Beach House Cookbook,” respectively. Spartina 449 on Calhoun Street is hosting the event and will donate a percent of proceeds to TLC and provide champagne and light snacks. Mayor Lisa Sulka will welcome guests and make opening remarks. Thanks Charbar Co! “Burgers & Books” promotion on 13 Monday nights from March through May raised $5,000 to support adult and family literacy programs! They served more than 3,000 people during that time helping raise awareness of the community service TLC provides and the people we are so proud to serve.
In 2018, The American Dream Celebration will replace “Cooks & Books” due to several conflicting events in Beaufort County in early March and the schedules of participating authors. Cooks & Books celebrated its 11th Annual Event on Sunday, March 5, 2107 at the Hilton Head Marriott Resort & Spa. The Celebration event kicked off with a “VIP Meet The Authors Champagne Brunch,” an intimate event that allowed guests to meet the authors one-on-one, purchase their books and have them personalized..
